◆ Amika D'Bira - The Leader Minyan◆

The Amika D'Bira minyan (also known by its Yiddish name, “the Leader Minyan") was founded by myself and other friends about 26 years ago. We meet during the High Holidays and every Shabbat Mevarchim (the Sabbath preceding the new month), starting at 8:00 AM and continuing until around 1:30 PM.
The intention is to create a prayer gathering where emotion, enthusiasm, singing, spontaneity, and being swept up in the moment are always welcome guests. We pray according to Nusach Sefard, women read from the Torah and lead parts of the service, and there is a flexible mechitzah (curtain separating men and women) — a prayer framework later adopted by quite a few partnership prayer groups in Israel and abroad.
The main goal of the minyan remains the desire to create a prayer experience that is both powerful and open — a space where the heart may be moved, even if just for a moment.
We currently meet at the Oriental Martial Arts Center at 17 Hizkiyahu Hamelech Street in Jerusalem and will continue to do so as long as we feel the spirit still has wings. If you are in Israel for the High Holidays or the Shabbat before the New Moon, please join us!

◆ Wuste Tsega – The Center for Culturally Adapted Psychotherapy◆
The Wuste Tsega Center for Culturally Adapted Psychotherapy was established in 2018 with the goal of creating a hub for dialogue and mutual enrichment between ancient and contemporary wisdoms.
The center’s vision is first and foremost expressed in its culturally sensitive response to the psychological needs and challenges of the Ethiopian-Israeli community. In the future, the center will focus on outlining and developing a body of professional knowledge for culturally adapted therapy that will serve the full spectrum of ethnic communities in Israel and around the world.
Wuste Tsega, a spring that the Jewish community in Ethiopia went to for healing (the Amharic term means "Inner Grace"), was founded by my colleague and student, Yeshitu Shmuel, with my support and accompaniment. Since then I have had the privilege of serving as Board Chair and promoting the Center's critical mission.
